Hope you enjoy watching ...cuz I did too ...for I knew what to expect ….and this became a good watch ! The facades of propriety and rectitude that they have so carefully constructed come crashing down, as these pillars of the chapel realise they have been living in sin all this time. What will the neighbours say? Faultless performances From left: Sue Devaney, kate Anthony, Zoe Lambert, Kat Rose Martin and Geraldine Fitzgerald Luke Adamson as Gerald Forbes and Sophia Hatfield as Nancy Holmes Personally I can’t think of a better antidote to these dark, dank November nights. Highly recommended. A must see for anyone with a sense of humour.

Female lead was taking advantage of SML till the end… like Girl he confessed to you already yet you keep talking to him as if nothing happened and even accepting extra helps from him…

This is the premise of JB Priestley’s classic comedy When We Are Married in the more than capable hands of Barrie Rutter and Northern Broadsides. Simon Higlett's lovingly-recreated sitting room, where all the action takes place, got a well-deserved round of applause when the curtain went up. And Christopher Luscmbe's excellent direction ensures there's space for both the characterisations and Priestley's dialogue to shine.

I suspect that this revival is most likely to be appreciated by those of a certain age. Though it is dated in terms of the societal values it portrays, there's also much which feels modern, especially in terms of role reversal. But it is a rather 'northern' play in terms of both the style of humour and some of the linguistic niceties. For example, I don't hear many people in London describing an argument as 'fratching', even though it is correctly listed in the dictionary. So I'm not sure that West End audiences will fully appreciate the nuances in Priestly's well-observed description. Still, it has endearing charm, great characters and more than enough humour to make for a good night out. I feel like the much-loved Northern Broadsides’ last two productions of King Lear and The Merry Wives, while hitting the marks in some places, really didn’t seem to be hitting the rest. Sacrificing attention to detail and atmosphere in exchange for giving their pieces a distinct northern flavour in an attempt to smash certain stereotypes, it seemed like the Broadsides’ power was beginning to dwindle, and I feared this would continue to be a common trait in their future work. Heading into York Theatre Royal’s Main House with these thoughts buzzing around my head, I wasn’t sure what to expect from their new production of J.B Priestley’s classic comedy When We Are Married, directed by Barrie Rutter. Some members of the Conservative Party, including Winston Churchill, expressed concern that Priestley might be expressing left-wing views on the programme, and, to his dismay, Priestley was dropped after his talk on 20th October 1940. This comedy is one of those delightful Who's Who of British Theatre productions that doesn't put a foot wrong. Written in 1938 by one of Britains best playwrights, JB Priestly, it is set in Northern England, 1908, where the theme of the story would indeed have made the participants social pariahs and bywords. Three couples are celebrating their combined 25th wedding anniversaries when they receive news of such calamity, such misfortune, such...well I shan't spoil the surprise, just try and watch it if you can. The story centres around solving what seems at first to be unsolvable. Even though there were loopholes with the story yet the chemistry between Main leads felt real in some scenes… I guess it's their acting…You know with those contract marriage to love tropes there’s not much scope for freshness ...but still the leads portray a decent chemistry ...with fun moments scattered all the way …you are in for a decent ride …

In the heart of Northern England, three respectable couples, married on the same day, at the same church, and by the same vicar, join to celebrate 25 years of blissful matrimony. Or so they think. A robustly enjoyable piece...This is a popular comedy, and, when played this well, it is easy to see why it is one of the most durable works of the last century."

the villain here or 2nd female lead ~ doesn't gives a damn about her own life, has no self respect & just wants ML anyhow so she keeps pestering him even after he rejects her with insults… she is evil af… I wanted to shout at her. "Girl, wake up. He is married. He jumps around with his wife, praising her & what not. So please open your eyes. Move on. You are pretty, rich & talented. You deserve better." Oh! but she wants to be villain after all… This the TV adaptation of JB Priestly's play of the same name first published in 1938. Three couples are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversaries. Not only do they all share the same anniversary they all got married at the same church at the same time by the same preacher. But a revelation that comes forth during the festivities throws them all in a turmoil. The play revolves around the repercussions of this revelation, and what can be done to solve the problem. The story is further enhanced with the possibility that certain characters are quite pleased with the new situation and are not especially enthusiastic about rectifying it. Gu Xixi ( played by Uvin Wang ) — Not having much to say about her. I think the way her role is… she didn't stand out much in the drama. She didn't impress me or disappoint me.

Rutter is on fine form here as an alcohol-loving Yorkshire Argus photographer, bringing a lovely and infectious dynamic energy to the stage. His fellow performers feed off this, and the three husbands are a trio of well-balanced, well-considered performances in their own right. Occasionally, there are times when I think things could be slightly sharper: character responses are sometimes sluggish, though I have a feeling this will be ironed out when the company hits its stride with the piece on its upcoming tour. At times, some directorial decisions also seem a bit out of place. When Gerald tells the three men that their marriages are all false, the stakes for the characters rise dramatically, and Gerald takes perhaps a little too much delight in taunting men with much more power than him, even in a situation where he’s ostensibly in control. Three respectable Yorkshire couples discover on their joint silver wedding anniversary that, through a technicality, they are not in fact married. When Priestley left the army he studied at Cambridge University, where he completed a degree in Modern History and Political Science. Subsequently he found work as theatre reviewer with the Daily News, and also contributed to the Spectator, the Challenge and Nineteenth Century. His earliest books included The English Comic Characters (1925), The English Novel (1927), and English Humour (1928). His breakthrough came with the immensely popular novel The Good Companions, published in 1929, and Angel Pavement followed in 1930. He emerged, too, as a successful dramatist with such plays as Dangerous Corner (1932), Time and the Conways (1937), When We Are Married (1938) and An Inspector Calls (1947). Have realistic hopes and the show delivers well …hope for misunderstandings ...hope for SLS (second lead syndrome) hope for a not so necessary leap...hope for typical gender role reversal through horror movies and roller coaster rides (that’s the typical way to describe things...I am not a discriminating fella ...both are allowed to be scared...) ….hope for a lot of cute scenes and laughs...hope for fillers ….hope for a cliched drama ...and there you are ...this drama will meet all your expectations ! (aren’t you wondering ….why am I stressing so much on cliches ….bec the drama wouldn’t exist without them...no not even an ep) Mu Ruona ( Yang Yue ) …&… ✦ Shang Ke ( Li Jun Chen) form the 2nd lead couple here. They tried to form a decent story yet it wasn't interesting for me at all. I don't know it's the concept or the acting but it just felt weird between them and I can't help but skip their already less scenes…For the rest...music ….no I am sorry it didn’t catch my attention ...no rewatch value either….cuz the first watch also feels like rewatch ...lol
