The new single malt is said to be made with whiskies spanning various ages (hinting at the inclusion of older whiskies than the previous NAS release) with classic delicate, floral character and primarily ex-Sherry casks used for maturation. The Miyagikyo distillery is award-winning for a reason, and the single malt is a true jewel in its crown.Miyagikyo distillery was built in foothills of the Miyagi region within a wide forest valley at the junction of two rivers - the area is renowned for pure air and clean, fresh water.

In anticipation of Nikka Whisky’s 90th Anniversary, the series offers an inside look at the various experiments in the whisky-making process that Nikka has practiced over the years. He aimed to make a complete contrast between the two distilleries, Miyagikyo and Yoichi, with different natural environments and production methods. Masataka Taketsuru, founder of Nikka and founding father of Japanese whisky learned his trade at Hazelburn Distillery in Campbelltown. This no age statement whisky showcases no end of interplay between notes of aromatic fruit and spice, and doubtless serves as a strong example of Japanese whisky. Released to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Masataka and Rita Taketsuru getting married and a nod to the early days of the business when apple juice and then apple brandy were produced. A full-flavoured and rich whisky with malty flavours with notes of liquorice, ginger and cinnamon spices, and chocolate.
