It is unknown what role, if any, Master Katarn played during the Jedi's assault on the Lost Tribe on Coruscant. He was among those present in Senator Wuul's office during the Council meeting to discuss further military action against the Lost Tribe and their new master, Abeloth. He expressed concern about Abeloth's origins, and was the only Master present to take Wynn Dorvan seriously when he said he killed Abeloth. When Tekli and Lowbacca informed the Council about the origins of Abeloth, Katarn gave several theories about what her endgame would be, and how Ben Skywalker figured into those plans. The Council meeting ended shortly after that when it was discovered that Ben had been captured by Abeloth and was fleeing Coruscant. Despite knowing the dangers of the dark side, Katarn utilized the dark powers of Force grip and Force lightning even as a Jedi Master. In spite of this, he was equally strong in light-side Force powers, such as Force absorb and Force protection, which he demonstrated during his mission with Jaden. [13]

The emotional manipulation he endured at the hands of the Empire has hardened him against causes and made the idealistic, trusting young man into a deadly efficient saboteur whose loyalty must be earned rather than bought. One thing is certain. He may not totally trust the Alliance, but he will never forgive or forget what the Empire has done to him. [...] it is this hatred of the Empire that will insure his reliability to us." ―Jan Ors [18] The victory was a pyrrhic one. The vast majority of the Titans sent to the system by the Pallidus Mor and Imperial Hunters were destroyed, two of the planet's three Hive cities were destroyed (Creontiades was leveled to the ground upon the arrival of Imperial Guard reinforcements), the forgeworld was reclassified as a Penal World (on the verge of being chosen for Exterminatus), and the planet's surviving loyalist population was interred and formed into a Penal Legion. The surviving members of the Titan legions, and the Titans they could salvage, prepared to return to their ships to leave the planet. [1] Sources Following the events on Dromund Kaas, Katarn attended the Jedi Praxeum, where he constructed a new blue-bladed lightsaber, which had two handgrips and a longer hilt than most average lightsabers. This lightsaber was Kyle's first official lightsaber, as his previous two belonged to other individuals. [6] Ships [ ]The The New Essential Guide to Characters establishes that Kyle Katarn joined the Academy of Carida at age eighteen, and Dark Forces: Soldier for the Empire states that Katarn spent four years at the Academy. As the The Essential Reader's Companion establishes Dark Forces 's date as 1 BBY, a birth date of 23 BBY can be found. It is said that when she ascended to the throne, the Bokha Palaces grew a whole new wing made of ice, half a mile long. This is beyond all but the most skilled ice mages and it is here that Katarin remains for most of her time. Some say she enjoys the cold, while others believe it to be an attempt to overawe all of her enemies and foreign ambassadors. [1a] She was also presented with a Matryoshka, or Kislevite nesting doll which contained 1,000 progressively smaller dolls within. [1e] An arch marked the entrance to the Valley of the Jedi which Kyle explored; he saw effigies of Lord Hoth and Tal. He climbed a tall tomb, and from the elevated location he spotted Jan tied to a column. The same option is available to Jaden Korr in Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. In this version, Korr turned to the dark side by killing Penin instead of staying in the light by forgiving him. Korr later dueled Katarn, overpowering his master with the Scepter of Ragnos he had stolen from Tavion, and escaped. Reflecting on the incident with Luke Skywalker, Katarn questioned whether or not he himself should be a Jedi, taking a leave of absence to apprehend Korr. Fearfrost: Ancient magical blade forged by Miska, it will slay anyone who it cuts and freeze to death any man who holds it. [4a]

The Doom of Katara was a conflict on the forgeworld Katara, fought between the Imperium and Khornate forces. [1] OverviewFour years after the Killik crisis, Katarn remained on the council. As the tensions grew between Corellia and the Galactic Alliance, Luke Skywalker's nephew Jacen Solo, under the sway of the dark side, began interning, torturing and executing Corellians under his new role as a colonel in the Galactic Alliance Guard. Katarn voiced his concerns along with fellow Council-member Cilghal to Skywalker that Solo was a dangerous force in his new capacity. [36] As the conflict progressed, eventually developing into the Second Galactic Civil War, Katarn also suggested that Leia Organa Solo be exiled due to her actions which appeared contrary to the wishes of the government he continued to serve. However, Katarn was only acting as a voice of moderation, and came to realize that the Jedi sometimes had to act beyond the government. [37] They spent the rest of the night burying the dead in carefully made graves and collect all equipment and scrap from the battle that could potentially point to their involvement in the patrol's disappearance, which Kyle found very tedious to do in the dark. Weapons and equipment were loaded on the skimmer. At sunrise Kyle insisted to look for more, but Grawley believed that the area was too big and they had to leave before dawn. [12] [16] The queen will have to fight more, as in recent times the Kurgans and Kyazak have been growing more bellicose under their Zars and Hetzars. The scale and ferocity of their raids has lead to The Empire dispatching a number of contingents to aid in Kislev's defence. Katarans are generally uncaring to events of the outside world, their societies have many qualities that are both lawful and chaotic. They have a strong clan loyalty, but many clans are nomadic, never staying in one place for very long. They tend more toward good than evil, but have no strong tie or drive to defend it.

The Emperor's Children came to respect the skill and honour of the Katarans, collecting their weapons and armour and treating them as relics. [1] See also Katarn was also a member of a SpecForce group assembled by the ex- Jedi Knight Corwin Shelvay, in which he teamed up with Force-sensitives Shira Brie and Erling Tredway to sabotage the superlaser of the second Death Star en route to D'rinba IV. [15] After the end of the invasion, Katarn heard a rumor that the Sith still existed. Due to his personal experience on Dromund Kaas, Katarn investigated, following clues from Ord Sedra in the Clacis sector first to Yaga Minor, and then halfway across the galaxy to the Cloak of the Sith, near Roon. Katarn went missing there; his fate resembled that of Daye Azur-Jamin, who had been missing since early in the Yuuzhan Vong war. [15] Some katarns were domesticated as the war-mounts of Wookiee dragon troopers. On another note, there was a small subspecies of katarn that populated the Shadowlands. These katarns had no climbing abilities, as evidenced by their four large trunk-like legs. They also had two small dangling manipulator arms. They had more rounded out edges than the main katarn species and two large tusks. The reformed Revan battled several of these in his second trip to find the Kashyyyk star map.

Despite anticipating mass resistance, the Katara only put up a token fight by lone warriors who while unsupported fought with plasma-tip spears with dazzling skill and grace. These warriors could slay entire squads, but stood little chance before the combined arms tactics of the Emperor's Children. Eventually, Kataran representatives came forth and requested that the war be settled not with pitched battle but with a duel of champions. In the subsequent duel, Abdemon battled the Kataran champion Hamaya. Abdemon emerged the victor, to which the Kataran's committed collective suicide on a civilizational level. [1] Kataran speak Kataran, which uses the common script, and is spoken in very soft, light, flowing tones. It is similar to elven in many respects, and the two languages share many common forest terms. Eventually, he came to accept his destiny as a Jedi Knight, arguing that no Force power is inherently dark or light, but that it fully depends on how and for what one uses it. [13] Rather than being ashamed of his brushes with the dark side, he would openly share his experiences with his apprentices so that they would not make the same mistakes as he did. When Rosh Penin finally managed to reject the temptations of the dark side and returned to the ways of the Jedi and Jaden Korr managed to steer clear of the dark path altogether and emerged the hero of the crisis of the Disciples of Ragnos, Katarn finally realized that he was a worthy and powerful Jedi and a great teacher. His confidence increased—and it was clear that whatever hesitancy he may have once had was long since gone. During his time as a member of the Jedi High Council he kept a low profile still, most of the time listening and gathering facts, instead of getting caught up in the passions of his fellow Masters. However it was noted that whenever he did speak, his comments were usually like a punch to the gut, in terms of how on point and honest they were.

[1c] History Katarn developed a relationship with the pilot Jan Ors during the search for the Valley of the Jedi. Once he came of age, Kyle enrolled at the Imperial Academy in 5 BBY; [17] he wished to alleviate some financial burden from his father, [15] but also gain enough knowledge so that he would be able to continue his father's trade as an agro-tech mechanic in the future. [18] As a Rimmer, Kyle had few opportunities to obtain an education and the Academy was one of them; his father (whom Kyle knew was a bit too sympathetic to the Rebellion), reluctantly agreed. He left his homeplanet on a Carida-bound freighter. [3] The day before his departure, his father gifted him an antique Bryar pistol; [15] Kyle kept with him a holo-recording of their last meeting, where Morgan expressed how proud he was for him. [14] I'm driving here, and that's Get this thing off me, please, Master Katarn.' " ―Jaina Solo and Katarn in pursuit of Valin Horn [40]

Katarn was adept at using a variety of weapons. His training gave him great skill in using Imperial weapons. This training, along with a natural intuition, allowed him to effectively use every weapon he came across in his travels. As competent with weaponry, Katarn had great accuracy when using blasters, rarely missing his shots and using all types of blasters from different shapes and sizes, shooting several stormtroopers with pistols, rifles, and even an assault cannon. [5] Once he aquired his first lightsaber, he was immediately able to wield it thanks to the fencing lessons he took in the Academy. [14] When the Jedi left Coruscant for good, Master Katarn was one of the Jedi present on Upekzar to confront Abeloth. It turned out to be a trap however, and many Jedi were killed when the dark energy from that place exploded, also causing a Volcano to erupt. Most of the Jedi escaped. [24] And, in recognition for his valor, and bravery in the face of the enemy, the Emperor hereby presents Second Lieutenant Kyle Katarn with the Medal of Valor, as well as the Empire's heartfelt gratitude." ― Rom Mohc [3] The Forgotten War: The Nagai and the Tofs on Hyperspace ( article) (content removed from StarWars.com and unavailable) Quotes I am his daughter, he was Tzar, so I am the Tzarina, you answer to me, Patriarch, as does every Kislevite!
